When is the best time to move to an assisted living community?

Sometimes living alone is too isolating, and a community can be a great solution for social, emotional and physical engagement. For those experiencing memory loss or other physical or chronic care issues, the time to move is before there is a crisis. If a loved one is showing signs of loneliness or decline, begin the conversation now. It is much better to move when they can take advantage of all the social activities and get the care they need to age in place.
How to find the right retirement community for me?
You may have to look at several before finding one that feels right, and it will likely take several weeks before you or your loved one feels at home. In addition to cost and location, there are many factors to consider. Some communities like Berman Commons are part of a larger network and can provide in house medical services, rehabilitation, vaccine clinics and more. When touring, ask about the things you or your loved one enjoys and how they would help facilitate that. Also ask about the concerns you have about care, transportation, safety and/or emotional and social needs. Stay for lunch and attend an activity. Watch how the staff interacts with residents and each other. You will find that each community has its own culture and style, so it is a matter of finding what feels right for your individual situation.
