Jewish HomeLife is thrilled to partner for the first time with the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta and the Jewish Agency for Israel’s 2019-2020 Shinshinim Atlanta program. This year ten amazing Shinshinim (young educators) began living with Atlanta families in August to share their culture with our community. The most diverse cohort yet, they come from all parts of Israel and represent the religious and ethnic diversity of their nation. Atlanta, along with Baltimore, Long Island, and Los Angeles, is the fourth U.S. city to embrace the Shinshinim “Hub” model welcoming these exuberant, young Israeli ambassadors. All recent high school graduates, the Shinshinim were chosen through a highly selective process competing with other applicants who have chosen to take a gap year before their IDF service. This is the third year in a row that Atlanta has participated in the program.

While the Shinshinim have interacted with children, tweens and teens in Metro Atlanta synagogues in addition to Jewish day schools and other Jewish organizations for the previous two years, this year is the first time that they are engaging on a regular basis with seniors who live in Jewish HomeLife’s five communities on three separate campuses accounting for almost 500 residents.

Yael Weber, Sagi Shulman and Zohar Chen, our Shinshinim, began visiting as well as participating and leading activities with our residents in early September. Each play musical instruments and are excited to form special relationships with our residents. Check out their updates (and ours!) on Facebook.
